| I
was in a small curio-shop that was built inside a
huge leafless oak tree. As I was looking around,
I realized that I knew most of the other people
browsing the store. They were starting to head
downstairs into the basement, so I followed them.
Once there, I realized that it was a study group
for my Statistics class. I don't go to study
groups in waking life because I find them more
distracting than anything else... but I figured
I'd stay and see if I could get anything out of
it for the final test. The
teacher's assistant [we don't have one in waking
life] came down the stairs. I remember he was a
large, fat man... reminded me of the guy who
taught Health & Nutrition last quarter
[another class I didn't do too well in]. He was
carrying a book and some papers and I realized
that it was a copy of the final exam. He was
going to tell them how to solve all the questions
on the final! I was definitely going to stay now!
Suddenly, they noticed I was
sitting there and told me to leave so they could
study. Leave? But I needed to study too! No. They
wouldn't let me. "Your grades are too
good. We get the answers because we can't keep up
any other way." I was shocked. "But,
my grades are terrible in this class! They
started out okay... but now I don't understand a
thing!" They didn't believe me and
didn't want me there. Well, I refused to leave so
I lay down on the bench seat. The TA gathered
everyone around him and started whispering the
answers to them. This made me so furious! I
needed those answers just as badly as anyone else
there!
Blackout.
The oak tree from before was on
a lower corner of a long field. It was a grey day
outside and none of the other trees had leaves,
so I'm guessing it was winter... but there was no
snow on the ground... in fact, the ground was dry
and it wasn't cold outside.
Anyway.
The field was rectangular... as
in... I was standing in a corner, and I could see
the other corner to my left [maybe 40 feet
away]... but then it went up a slight rise and I
couldn't see what was on the far side in front of
me. It looked like an abandoned field because the
ground was hard and there were a few trees, huge
boulders, and stones strewn about.
Just in front of me, and to the
left, was an outside craft fair. I walked towards
it and suddenly, it turned into a big store...
with rows of shelves, much like a larger version
of the curio-shop from before.
I was browsing around when I
passed a baby boy [maybe barely 1 year old]
sitting in a shopping cart crying. I felt sorry
for it so I smiled and made some baby noises at
it. It stopped crying when it saw me. I touched
his nose and he laughed. I said, "Where's
your mommy, little one?" I looked over
to my left and saw it's mother watching me in
fascination. I laughed at the kid and said, "Oh,
there she is!" I smiled at the mother
and walked away... as I did, the baby started
crying again. The mother stopped me and asked if
I wouldn't mind watching her kid for a while.
Sure, why not.
She handed me the baby and I
kept looking around the store a bit with the kid
on my hip just smiling. The dream fritzed out a
second and suddenly I had acquired another
baby... this one a black kid the same age as the
white one.
As I reached another row, I put
the black baby down for a second to reposition
them. As I was holding the white baby, it said
something. I stopped in shock and held it out at
arms length to look at it. "What?"
Okay... babies aren't supposed to be able to talk
at that age. I was freaked.
It didn't reply but, then I
heard the black baby say something. I looked down
and, as I did, the white baby said something and
we started having a conversation. They told me
that they were brothers and being hunted because
they were "chosen." If they were
caught, they would be sacrificed.
Oh... great.
About that time, I found a
long, pointed cone-shaped stick... maybe a foot
and a half long. They told me to hang onto it
because it had power.
Suddenly, the store was gone
and we were standing in the middle of the field.
A set of three waves of rippling blue energy came
at us from over the hill and hit us full force. I
stumbled and the two babies glowed blue as it
passed over them. "He's found us!"
I was confused. "He who?"
"The Rogue Spirit!
Quickly! We have to run!"
I understood that the energy
was like a magical sonar system and would help
the Rogue Spirit locate the babies. I picked them
up and ran towards the oak tree... which had
turned into a tall spire with a platform on the
top and wooden stairs spiraling up to it. As I
ran, another wave of blue energy came from over
the rise in the field. I ducked behind a large
boulder and it passed around us harmlessly. As
soon as I could, I started running again. Another
wave came at us. I jumped up and it passed
beneath me. I kept running. The two babies and
the wooden cone were making running difficult.
Another blue wave came at us and I jumped onto
the lower platform of the spire.
In the distance, I could see a
man and his followers [all 13-14 years old]
walking in the direction of the spire. It was the
Rogue Spirit. I climbed up about half way and
hid. The Rogue Spirit spoke to his followers as
he started to climb the spire. I scrambled up to
the top of the spire and hid. The top platform
was circular... maybe five feet in diameter and,
attached to it were a bunch of those sharp
cones... all different sizes and all facing up...
looking like an old ship's crow's nest.
Suddenly, I understood that all
the cones represented spirits that the renegade
had killed in his search for power. As the
renegade got halfway up the spire, he realized
that we were up there. He blasted his followers
and then the "dream camera" zoomed in
on one of the kids who screamed in delight as he
morphed into a werelion and his scream turned
into a roar.
The kids started attacking us
and I grabbed the cone I had been carrying and
started using it like a knife, swinging it at
them. Once I cut them, they'd disappear. Finally,
the Rogue Spirit appeared and I swung the cone at
him, just barely slicing his chest. He grinned at
me and swung at me with his claws.
...then... the phone rang and I
jumped a good two feet into the air. *mutters*
