| This was
heavily influenced by some videos I was watching
that night: Prelude:
That night, I had scrubbed through a few video
downloads... trying to clear some space on my
computer. I had grabbed a DVD rip of Gattaca off
the network, but hadn't been in the mood to watch
it. I skipped near the ending where he's putting
on his socks and the woman sees the scars on his
legs where they altered his height. I also
watched the episode of ST:Voyager called
"Critical Care." The scene that jumped
out was where the Doc helps a guy whose leg is
bleeding after an explosion brings patients into
the hospital. They don't know what a hypospray is
and, in exhasperation, he tells the patient,
"I'm sorry, this may hurt a little"
before working on the leg.
In the dream scene, I had the two scars on my
legs like the guy on Gattaca, but they were only
a day or two old... not completely healed. The
Doc and another faceless guy were going to remove
the scarring but, in order to do so, would have
to reopen the healing wounds. There was nothing
around to deaden the pain. I was sitting on a
rock or table edge... the image changed a couple
times... with my legs dangling over the edge. The
unknown guy kneeled down with a scalpel to cut
the skin back. I was then lying down and the Doc
was holding my hand while he watched the unknown
guy. The pain hit and I gripped hard and tried
not to move. It really REALLY hurt.
...and I woke up.
