Two Dreams
#1) My brother and I were going to fly home to
Kentucky from SFO. Never mind that he's never
been to the Bay Area and is already home IRL. We
were going to fly home. We check in at the
airport and got our tickets... hopped onto the
first plane... and wound up in Australia. This
was a completely normal layover on the way to
Kentucky.
Once there, I started sorting through the
tickets... something wasn't adding up quite
right. We were switching airlines and there was
just something wrong. My brother wasn't worried
and, as we walked to the next terminal, he took
out his cell phone and called home. I heard him
say, "There's no point, I'm closer to
Australia than home now." I think my parents
had told him to come back home.
The airport shuttle took us across the tarmac
to our next plane... a tiny little single prop...
but then, as we walked back to load our bags in,
I saw it was a double. That feeling of something
being very wrong came back and I kept thinking we
were getting on the wrong plane.
The sun set and we found ourselves riding in a
truck down a road that paralleled the airport.
The man behind the wheel seemed familiar somehow.
I think he was supposed to be NT, one of the
flight instructors here on campus that I know
through his sister-in-law [one of my good
friends]. I've flown with him a couple times when
my friend visited... and he was born in New
Zealand.
Off to the side of the road was a small
clearing with a couple cars parked along the
edge. There was a group of people playing drums
in a rough circle while a few others danced
around. They were all Aborigines and had painted
a few white lines on their faces and arms.
The driver parked so we could go watch them
but I wasn't sure we should just drop in on
something like this. Another man with a drum
approached and invited us to sit with him. We
watched for quite a while and I enjoyed the
rhythms they created. On the one hand, I would
have loved to join in the circular dance. On the
other hand, I was an outsider here and even
watching this was a privilege.
By my watch we only had three hours until we
were supposed to leave. Suddenly, I asked what
time it was... local time. We'd completely
forgotten about the time change! The guy who
drove us out there looked at his watch and said
we should leave... the plane would be ready to go
now. So, there was a three hour difference. That
seemed odd to me at the time, but was quickly
dismissed as I panicked... we had to make it back
before the plane took off! The driver didn't seem
worried as we got back in the truck to leave... I
think he was the pilot. The plane wasn't going
anywhere without him... which makes sense if he
was supposed to be a representation of NT.
We took off and, perhaps ten minutes later,
landed in Lexington, Kentucky. Again, that seemed
weird... Australia being so close that a small,
two prop plane could make the flight in ten
minutes.... End.
#2) I started as an observer in this dream,
the dream-camera standing on the sand of a small
cove. The lake, which lay behind, stretched on
into the distance and one could barely see the
hint of the trees on other side. The water was
warm and very still. This information was
explained through dream-knowledge since all I
could see was the forest edge in front of me.
I had started to think of how much forests can
hide things. There could be one person within...
alone for hundreds of miles... or, there could be
a handful of people walking around yet never once
laying eyes on another.
Just then, a young boy ran out of the forest
from my left and disappeared through the trees on
my right. It had been in a flash, much like The
Boy had done the other night... but it wasn't The
Boy. This boy had long, white hair and wore
nothing except a white loincloth and a square
piece of white leather tied over his face as a
mask. He had painted his entire body white as
well.
His image played in my mind for a while and,
just as I started puzzling over him, a young girl
in a red dress ran past me from the beach at my
right. She was barefoot and scared as she
disappeared into the trees in front of me. An
angry man approached my position and he scowled
in her direction. He had a long, wooden stick in
one hand and a black scroll [which looked
identical to the ones in the recent Naruto
storyline] in the other. He watched her running
through the trees... farther and farther away. He
then tossed the scroll up in the air and swung
the stick like you would in baseball. The scroll
flew through the trees and landed next to her.
She ignored it and kept running.
The dream jumped a bit and I found myself back
on the beach, this time as a character. I had a
small beach ball and ran into the water to play.
Off to my right, there were three younger kids
playing with another ball. Slightly behind me,
there was a boy who swam up to play with them.
The kids asked if I wanted to play. Sure, but I
was waiting for someone and would have to leave
once he arrived. They wanted to know whom I was
waiting for and I explained that there was a
giant that I played with in this cove every now
and then... but I couldn't remember his name... I
knew it started with an A. They tried to help me
think of the name but they weren't helping.
The phone startled me awake just as I
remembered. Andre.
...and no, it wasn't Andre the Giant. ;P
